Anthropic Labs introduced Claude Design on April 17, 2026, a new product that enables users to collaborate with Claude to create visual work including designs, prototypes, slides, and one-pagers. The tool is powered by Claude Opus 4.7 and is available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.

Claude Design addresses a common challenge in creative work: time constraints that limit exploration. Designers typically prototype only a few directions due to resource limitations, while non-designers often struggle to translate ideas into visual form. The tool allows users to describe what they need, and Claude builds an initial version that can be refined through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, or custom adjustment sliders.

How Claude Design Works

The product follows a natural creative workflow. During onboarding, Claude builds a design system by reading a team’s codebase and design files, automatically applying colors, typography, and components to every project. Users can start from text prompts, upload documents in DOCX, PPTX, or XLSX formats, or point Claude at their codebase. A web capture tool allows teams to grab elements directly from their website so prototypes match the actual product.

Refinement happens through fine-grained controls. Users can comment on specific elements, edit text directly, or adjust spacing, color, and layout with live adjustment knobs. When a design is ready, Claude packages everything into a handoff bundle for Claude Code with a single instruction. Designs support organization-scoped sharing, allowing teams to keep documents private, share with view-only access, or grant edit permissions for group collaboration.

Use Cases and Applications

Teams have deployed Claude Design for multiple purposes. Designers use it to turn static mockups into interactive prototypes for user testing without code review. Product managers sketch feature flows and hand them off to Claude Code for implementation or share with designers for refinement. Marketers create landing pages, social media assets, and campaign visuals, then loop in designers for polishing. Founders and account executives build complete pitch decks from rough outlines in minutes, then export as PPTX or send to Canva.

The tool also supports frontier design work. Users can build code-powered prototypes incorporating voice, video, shaders, 3D elements, and built-in artificial intelligence capabilities. Designs export to multiple formats including internal URLs, folders, Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files.

Availability and Access

Claude Design is available for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Access is included with existing subscription plans and uses standard subscription limits, with the option to enable extra usage beyond those limits. For Enterprise organizations, the feature is off by default, with administrators able to enable it through Organization settings. Users can start designing at claude.ai/design.

Anthropic stated that over the coming weeks, the company will make it easier to build integrations with Claude Design, allowing teams to connect the tool to other software they already use. The rollout to users is happening gradually throughout the day.

Future Development

The launch represents Anthropic’s expansion into visual design tools within its broader AI product ecosystem. The integration with Claude Code and support for design system automation suggest the company is positioning Claude Design as part of a larger workflow for teams combining design and development. Future integration capabilities indicate Anthropic’s intent to embed Claude Design deeper into existing team workflows and tool stacks.
