Four national digital sustainability initiatives were launched by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) during the LEAP 26 conference, according to SPA (English).

The strategic partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed between the two organizations. Ithra participated in this agreement through its Global Digital Wellbeing Initiative, known as Sync, which focuses on fostering technological balance and enhancing societal wellbeing in an increasingly connected world.

Core Areas of the Digital Sustainability Initiatives

The newly announced digital sustainability initiatives focus on four distinct practical tracks designed to build knowledge and support regulation across Saudi Arabia. First, the program includes public awareness campaigns and specialized workshops to promote healthier tech habits among individuals and families.

Second, the agreement establishes plans to prepare and produce comprehensive field studies regarding technology use and its societal effects. Meanwhile, the partners will develop targeted academic programs in digital regulation and collaborate directly with global entities to support health and wellbeing standards in modern tech environments.

Expanding Research and Institutional Policy

The collaboration aims to advance applied research on how emerging technologies affect daily life. Consequently, the resulting data and insights will assist regulatory authorities in developing informed policies and improving institutional decision-making across the Kingdom.

In addition, the framework supports capability building within the local technical workforce. The initiative actively enriches informational content around emerging tools, including developments in artificial intelligence, while broadening partnerships with specialized regional and international organizations.

Academic Training and Digital Wellbeing

Specialized training tracks form an essential component of the long-term plan. Through dedicated education and training programs, the agreement seeks to build regulatory and technical expertise among national professionals.

Furthermore, these joint efforts integrate with broader ongoing programs in telecommunications governance. By addressing screen time, digital habits, and tech-induced fatigue, the project addresses community health factors covered in health technology sectors.

Supporting National Strategic Goals

This cooperative effort marks a meaningful shift from general awareness activities toward concrete research and policy support. CST and Ithra designed these programs to encourage responsible digital consumption in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

By bringing together regulatory oversight and cultural research, the initiative seeks to establish benchmarks for evaluating the impact of digital tools. Ultimately, these digital sustainability initiatives will establish sustained cooperation between government regulators and cultural institutions to ensure long-term public wellbeing throughout the digital era.
