The Eastern Region Municipality showcased its City Operations Platform during the LEAP 2026 technology conference in Riyadh. Nael Al-Haqeel, the Undersecretary for Digital Transformation and Smart Cities, delivered a presentation outlining how urban data and modern technologies support municipal administration. The initiative focuses on monitoring urban variables and improving operational efficiency across cities in the Eastern Province, according to reporting by Al Yaum.
Capabilities of the City Operations Platform
During the session, the municipality demonstrated how the center tracks the urban landscape through detailed data analysis. The City Operations Platform provides municipal sectors with predictive capabilities to anticipate operational challenges and manage field resources effectively. Furthermore, these digital tools enable government departments to evaluate ongoing service delivery using centralized data streams.
The integration of digital tools aligns with directives established by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. By connecting different components of urban infrastructure, the municipality aims to improve service delivery and maintain high urban standards across administrative zones.
Inter-Agency Collaboration and Partnerships
The presentation also highlighted efforts to build cooperative ties with government bodies, private firms, and academic institutions. Through these collaborations, the municipality seeks to test new technical models in urban management and expand the application of specialized software systems. In addition, sharing operational expertise with research partners helps improve public municipal services.
Urban teams use these shared technical frameworks to observe traffic flow, infrastructure wear, and municipal maintenance schedules. Consequently, these coordinated efforts support broader national goals for sustainable urban planning in line with Economy & Business priorities.
Alignment with National Urban Goals
The municipality confirmed that its deployment of data systems forms part of a wider transition toward proactive municipal management. By gathering continuous data from city assets, the administration tracks changes across public spaces and addresses service requirements promptly. Moreover, these initiatives directly support municipal modernization efforts overseen by the central ministry.
The deployment also incorporates advanced analytics connected to modern Apps & Software to ensure seamless data exchange across municipal departments. Officials noted that the City Operations Platform serves as a central hub for analyzing civic variables and improving local operational performance.
