The Ferrari Luce is an all-electric sports car unveiled by the Italian manufacturer in Rome. This vehicle represents the first fully electric model from the Maranello-based company. Notably, the launch marks the culmination of the multi-energy strategy announced during the 2022 Capital Markets Day.

The manufacturer chose the Vela di Calatrava in Rome for the unveiling to commemorate its first racing victory in 1947. Meanwhile, the company continues to develop hybrid and internal combustion engines alongside this new electric architecture. Consequently, this approach aligns with the brand’s commitment to technological neutrality.

Design Collaboration for Ferrari Luce

The design of the Ferrari Luce was developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the creative collective led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson. This partnership introduced an external perspective to the vehicle’s aesthetic, resulting in a unified design language across the exterior, interior, and interface. Furthermore, the car features a glass house structure that extends below the belt line.

Inside, the cabin accommodates four doors and five seats, which is a first for the brand’s sports cars. Specifically, the interior layout eliminates the central tunnel to maximize passenger space. In addition, the interface combines mechanical controls with custom OLED displays developed by Samsung Display, which are common in modern smart devices.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The vehicle is built on a bespoke platform and weighs 2260 kg. It is powered by four independent electric engines, with one motor assigned to each wheel. As a result, the system delivers a total power output of 1050 cv, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

The maximum speed exceeds 310 km/h, while the estimated driving range is over 530 km. Notably, the car features staggered wheel diameters, with 23-inch wheels at the front and 24-inch wheels at the rear. Moreover, the braking system utilizes carbon-ceramic discs to manage deceleration.

Battery and Thermal Management Systems

The high-voltage battery pack was designed and manufactured in Maranello. It consists of 210 cells connected in series, providing a gross capacity of 122 kWh. Furthermore, the system supports fast charging up to 350 kW, allowing a 70 kWh charge in 20 minutes.

Thermal management is regulated through three distinct architectures using coolant, water, and air. Specifically, three active grilles control airflow to balance cooling requirements with aerodynamic drag. Consequently, this system helps maintain optimal temperatures for the battery and the electric motors.

Acoustic Engineering and Vehicle Dynamics

The vehicle utilizes a patented acoustic system to capture and amplify the natural vibrations of the electric axles. This signal is processed in real time to deliver functional audio feedback inside the cabin. Meanwhile, the active suspension system, derived from the F80, helps reduce road noise and vibration.

The Ferrari Luce utilizes a Vehicle Control Unit to coordinate the powertrain and dynamics, updating targets 200 times per second. Additionally, the electric all-wheel-drive system utilizes torque vectoring to manage stability during cornering. Finally, the chassis incorporates recycled aluminum alloys to reduce production emissions, supporting the green economy.
