Recent sales data from GM Middle East shows that full-size SUVs and pickups accounted for 44 percent of the company’s regional sales between 2000 and 2025.
This figure represents approximately 1 million vehicles sold over the 25-year period. Consequently, these vehicle segments remain central to the brand’s regional operations as it marks 100 years of presence in the Middle East.
Sales Performance of GM Middle East
The long-term sales data highlights a sustained regional preference for large vehicles. Specifically, the portfolio includes models such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, GMC Yukon, Sierra, and Cadillac Escalade.
These models have historically defined the market share of GM Middle East in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and surrounding countries. Meanwhile, the company continues to distribute these vehicles through a network of 17 distributors across 29 countries.
Regional Safety Preferences and Survey Results
A 2024 YouGov survey commissioned by the manufacturer in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt revealed that safety features are the primary consideration for buyers.
Notably, 89 percent of respondents prioritized safety over vehicle affordability and aesthetics during their purchase decisions. As a result, the company has shifted its engineering focus toward collision avoidance and impact energy management.
“Today, strength isn’t just about heavy metal; it’s engineered through advanced safety systems, smarter structures, and technology that helps reduce the risk of crashes before they happen.”
Jorge Plata, President and Managing Director of GM Africa and Middle East
Engineering Evolution and Vehicle Safety Ratings
Modern automotive design now incorporates lighter materials and specific deformation zones to absorb crash forces. Furthermore, independent organizations have recognized these engineering updates in recent vehicle safety evaluations.
For instance, the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia received Top Safety Pick ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Additionally, the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse achieved a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In the electric vehicle segment, the Cadillac Escalade IQ received product recognition from Autotrader and MotorTrend for its design and engineering integration.
Connected Services and Ownership Support
To support driver awareness, the manufacturer deploys its OnStar connected services across the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
The service currently has more than 42,000 regional members. It provides features such as automatic crash response and emergency assistance to drivers.
In addition, the company manages post-purchase safety through vehicle recalls coordinated with local authorities. This collaborative approach helps maintain consumer trust and addresses technical issues after sale.
