King Saud University Medical City announced the launch of its digital health innovation ecosystem during its participation in the LEAP 2026 conference in Riyadh, according to SPA (Arabic). The initiative aims to integrate modern technological applications into the medical sector while supporting digital transformation objectives across the Kingdom.
Represented by the Executive Administration of Information Technology and Digital Transformation, the medical city presented several technological projects designed to upgrade healthcare delivery. Furthermore, officials highlighted the importance of connecting healthcare operations with advanced technical frameworks to raise service efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
Focus on Digital Health Innovation and Practical Solutions
During the event, the executive director of information technology and digital transformation at the medical city, Eng. Mubarak bin Marei Al-Shahrani, reviewed ongoing digital initiatives. He stated that building an effective ecosystem requires close coordination between medical, technological, and academic specialists.

Healthathon 2026 Registration and Focus Areas
Alongside the platform launch, the medical city opened registration for the second edition of Healthathon 2026. The competition takes place from October 1 to October 4, 2026, at King Saud University in Riyadh. Specifically, the event invites software developers, medical practitioners, researchers, and entrepreneurs to design working prototypes for clinical challenges.
The hackathon features four primary tracks targeting specific medical priorities:
- Digital Patient Experience
- Proactive Healthcare
- Health Insurance Technologies
- Women’s Digital Health
Integration with Emerging Technologies
Participants will work on practical applications that utilize artificial intelligence and modern data systems to enhance diagnostic workflows. Moreover, developing targeted mobile solutions and specialized apps remains a key focus area across the four competition tracks.
Meanwhile, the institution emphasized that investing in national technical talent supports local research capabilities in line with broader national goals. These technological advancements also contribute to the expanding digital economy by encouraging healthcare entrepreneurship across Saudi Arabia.
