The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah have launched a joint initiative to strengthen personal data protection standards among pilgrim service providers.
More than 200 companies serving pilgrims from within the Kingdom and around the world, in addition to over 70 ministry officials, attended the specialized session. The initiative focused on reducing improper data-handling practices while promoting national regulatory frameworks. Consequently, these organizations can better manage sensitive information during the pilgrimage seasons, ensuring that pilgrim details remain secure.
Implementing Personal Data Protection in Hajj Services
During the workshop, representatives studied the core regulations of the Saudi personal data protection system. Specifically, the sessions outlined the rights of data owners and the legal obligations of data controllers and processors in the artificial intelligence era. This framework aims to build trust in digital services provided to pilgrims.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Data Quality
The joint efforts also focused on training companies to apply data classification and quality standards. Notably, accurate data management helps organizations make informed decisions and improves coordination across the Hajj and Umrah sectors. This integration supports the development of digital services, allowing service providers to coordinate their operations more effectively.
National Data Governance Policies
SDAIA presented several national policies, including guidelines for data classification, data sharing, open data, and freedom of information. These policies encourage the responsible use of information while maintaining high levels of transparency. Furthermore, they protect individual privacy rights under the national personal data protection framework, which serves as a benchmark for secure data operations.
Future Outlook for Pilgrim Services
The initiative aligns with the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to improve the overall economy and experience of pilgrims. By establishing secure data practices, the Kingdom aims to build a reliable digital infrastructure. SDAIA stated it will continue raising awareness across both public and private sectors to ensure secure data management, helping companies transition to fully compliant digital systems in the coming years.
