Qatar Airways Starlink connectivity has expanded to 150 widebody aircraft following the introduction of the world’s first equipped Boeing 787-9. The carrier completed the installation across its Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet in seven months, progressing toward full fleet readiness by the end of 2026. This milestone marks a significant step in the airline’s broader strategy to deliver continuous, high-speed inflight internet across its long-haul passenger operations.
Expansion of the Qatar Airways Starlink Fleet
The airline now operates the largest connected widebody fleet in commercial aviation. This achievement builds upon previous rapid deployment schedules across different aircraft models within the fleet. Specifically, technical teams completed installations across the Boeing 777 fleet in nine months, while the Airbus A350 fleet integration concluded in eight months.
Fleet Modernization Timelines
Work on the Boeing 787 fleet is advancing rapidly across international routes. With more than half of its Boeing 787 aircraft now fitted with satellite hardware, the Qatar Airways Starlink programme has surpassed an overall widebody installation rate of 83 percent across the entire long-range fleet.
In terms of regional telecom infrastructure and scheduled services, the carrier operates up to 323 connected flights daily. These operations connect passengers flying across six continents, providing coverage on long-haul routes connecting the Americas, Australasia, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
High Speed Inflight Connectivity
The satellite network delivers high-speed internet reaching up to 500 Mbps at cruising altitudes of 35,000 feet. Consequently, passengers can stream content, manage complex work assignments, and use their personal smart devices without interruption throughout the flight.
Complimentary access is available from gate to gate across participating routes, subject to local regulatory frameworks at select airports. Travelers can access the network through Privilege Club membership authentication, ensuring secure and straightforward onboarding directly from their personal devices.
Global Network Integration
Since launching the service in October 2024, Qatar Airways Starlink flights have served more than 23 million passengers across over 86,000 trips worldwide. The expansion forms a central part of broader digital upgrades supporting modern commercial aviation operations.
Moreover, the airline continues to service over 160 global destinations via its hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha. As installation work concludes on the remaining airframes, passenger connectivity continues to expand across international flight paths, maintaining steady progress toward complete fleet coverage before the close of 2026.
