The Saudi Arabia mobility sector convened in Riyadh as leaders advanced the next phase of transport development in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 ambitions. The gathering brought together representatives from the Transport General Authority, Quality of Life Program, Jameel Mobility Solutions and Services, and Uber to review progress and align on priorities for continued growth.
Urban mobility continues to play a central role in enabling economic diversification, enhancing quality of life, and supporting the movement of people across cities. The session, held under the theme “The Next Chapter of Kingdom Mobility,” examined how the Kingdom’s transport system is evolving to enable innovation, investment, and improved mobility services for residents and visitors.
Focus Areas for Saudi Arabia Mobility Sector Development
Participants discussed the introduction of emerging technologies, including autonomous mobility, with emphasis on phased deployment and regulatory readiness. Key enablers for long-term growth included infrastructure development, regulations, and local capabilities, particularly given increasing demand driven by major events such as Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup.
Speakers highlighted the importance of coordinated action across the mobility ecosystem to ensure efficient traffic flow, scalable solutions, and seamless urban experience. The discussions underscored how public and private sector collaboration remains essential for advancing the sector.
Regulatory Framework and Future Infrastructure
Aljohara Alfayez, Director of Future Mobility Regulation at the Transport General Authority, said: “The Kingdom’s transport system is being built for the future, and the regulatory frameworks supporting it are evolving at pace. This is the work we are advancing, and forums like this help ensure it remains coordinated and aligned for the next phase, especially as the Kingdom prepares to host major global events and scale its mobility infrastructure.”
The regulatory approach focuses on ensuring public trust while enabling innovation across the sector. Officials emphasized that phased deployment of technologies allows time for testing, validation, and community acceptance before widespread implementation.

The Rihla initiative, operated by Uber, serves as a platform translating national mobility priorities into tangible outcomes through cross-sector collaboration. The platform spans multiple areas including tourism, talent development, and technological innovation.

Salman Al Khattaf, Advisor to the CEO of the Quality of Life Program, added: “Mobility plays a central role in enhancing the quality of life across the Kingdom by improving access to opportunities, services, and experiences. Officials noted that scaling mobility infrastructure requires alignment across government agencies, private operators, and technology providers to ensure systems function seamlessly during large-scale events.
