The Saudi Toyota Championship Time Attack completed its official practice sessions at Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Friday ahead of competitive racing. The event operates under the supervision of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), which owns the competition. In addition, Bakhashab Motorsport manages the series in partnership with Jameel Motorsport as the official partner.
The opening round began on Thursday with administrative checks and technical scrutineering to verify vehicle safety standards. Organizers registered 107 male and female competitors for the event, while 74 drivers successfully cleared technical scrutineering across 11 distinct categories and the dedicated Ladies Cup.
Driver Briefing and Free Practice Sessions
Friday’s schedule started with a mandatory drivers’ briefing at 5 p.m. involving race stewards and officials to review competition rules. Subsequently, free practice sessions began at 6 p.m., providing each category with dedicated track time. Drivers used these sessions to assess vehicle setups, determine braking points, and study optimal racing lines on the circuit.
Motorsport events continue to expand within the Kingdom’s broader automotive sector. The practice sessions allowed participants to make necessary mechanical adjustments before timed runs begin.
Saudi Toyota Championship Competitive Format
The Saudi Toyota Championship Time Attack uses an individual timed format on a designated track layout. Competitors focus purely on setting the fastest lap time while following track boundaries and safety rules. Consequently, final rankings depend entirely on recorded lap times rather than direct grid overtaking or starting positions.
Final Race Schedule and Podium Ceremony
Competitive action continues on Saturday with the opening competitive run scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the second run at 7:45 p.m. Each driver’s best single time across the two runs determines the final category standings. Furthermore, the round concludes at midnight with an official podium ceremony to present awards to top finishers.
These structured events also generate commercial activity within the local economy through sports tourism and technical support services. The competitive runs will establish early season points for all 11 categories.
Role of the Federation in Motorsport
Founded in 2006, SAMF represents Saudi Arabia in international motorsport organizations including the FIA, FIM, and FIVA. The federation regulates national motor racing, enforces safety standards, and supports local driving talent. Notably, SAMF also oversees major international events in the Kingdom, including Formula 1, Formula E, the Dakar Rally, and the World Rally Championship.
