King Khalid International Airport has launched the initial phase of its Silent Airport project at Terminal 5 in Riyadh, according to Saudi Gazette. The operational move seeks to decrease ambient sound levels across the terminal while transitioning flight information delivery toward modern digital channels and self-service systems.
Implementation of the Silent Airport project
Under the phased rollout, airport authorities will minimize routine public address announcements throughout the terminal concourse and waiting areas. Instead, voice announcements will be strictly limited to boarding gate areas as individual flights prepare for departure. This operational adjustment directly supports ongoing modernization initiatives across the Kingdom’s tourism and aviation infrastructure by creating a more relaxed environment for travelers.
The transition away from continuous audio broadcasts is designed to eliminate airport noise fatigue, ensuring that travelers are not overwhelmed by repetitive loudspeaker calls. By reserving spoken announcements exclusively for critical boarding gate calls, the Silent Airport project ensures that when an audio update is broadcast, it commands immediate attention from the specific passengers involved.
Digital Information Channels for Passengers
To maintain seamless communication without relying on audible noise, the facility is directing travelers toward several digital resources. Flight updates, gate numbers, and departure statuses are continuously displayed across updated high-visibility terminal screens installed throughout the concourse. In addition, travelers can access automated real-time flight details through the airport’s official WhatsApp service at 920020090.
Airport management stated that travelers can also track operational announcements and scheduling shifts via the airport official website and visible digital signage positioned at major passenger crossroads. These mobile channels reflect ongoing updates across regional apps and software platforms serving air travelers in Saudi Arabia, enabling passengers to monitor their flights directly from personal mobile devices.
On-Ground Support via Ask Me Teams
Alongside mobile updates, on-site personnel from the dedicated “Ask Me” customer service team are stationed across Terminal 5 to assist passengers with immediate flight inquiries. Staff members offer direct guidance on departures, gates, baggage, and terminal services to ensure smooth passenger transit without audio broadcast reliance.
The initiative aligns with broader integration of smart devices and interactive display networks throughout transportation hubs across the region, encouraging travelers to check visual indicators upon entering the terminal.
Future Expansion Across Riyadh Terminals
The current launch in Terminal 5 serves as the operational baseline for the wider Silent Airport project rollout in the capital. Airport officials confirmed that additional execution phases across remaining terminals at King Khalid International Airport will be announced in due course as passenger feedback and operational benchmarks are evaluated.
