Snapchat has launched a new Snap Map music sharing capability called “Now Playing” to let users share their real-time listening activity directly from Spotify. The update adds a new layer of personal expression to the interactive map, which currently attracts more than 450 million monthly active users globally.
Through this integration, users can connect their streaming accounts to display their current tracks to selected contacts. The feature aims to enhance social discovery by allowing friends to find new songs through their daily interactions on the platform.

How the Snap Map Music Feature Works
The Snap Map music integration displays real-time listening statuses directly on the map interface. Users can tap on a friend’s active track to explore related content, such as Spotlight videos that utilize the same audio track. Additionally, the interface allows users to open the song directly on Spotify or save it to their Liked Songs playlist.
Account Linking and Privacy Controls
To use the service, users must link their Spotify accounts through designated entry points within the map, sound pages, friend profiles, or the main settings menu. Once the connection is established, users can manage their privacy settings to control who can view their active listening status.
The privacy options include sharing with all Snapchat friends, sharing exclusively with friends who already have access to the user’s map location, or selecting specific individual contacts. Users can also choose to share with “No one” to keep their listening activity completely private.
Integration with Spotify and Spotlight
The Snap Map music update also allows users to save songs directly to Spotify from Spotlight videos and Sound Pages. This cross-platform functionality simplifies how users interact with digital media across different apps.
