Globalstar has introduced a private 5G system under the XCOM RAN brand, targeting enterprises operating in demanding industrial environments where artificial intelligence and automation workloads require high-capacity connectivity.
The offering comprises three radio units, a core network, an orchestrator, and an industrial router. Globalstar said the products are built on open RAN standards, giving operators flexible deployment options across multiple spectrum bands.
Spectrum Compatibility and Coverage
The private 5G system supports the US shared spectrum band n48 and the n78 band used by industries in Europe and parts of Asia. It also operates on the n53 band, for which Globalstar holds licences in 13 countries.
Focus on Industrial IoT and Physical AI
Tamer Kadous, General Manager of Terrestrial Networks at Globalstar, said the product range addresses enterprises working in challenging radio frequency environments. “We are focusing on automation and industrial IoT,” Kadous stated, pointing to extended reality and physical AI technology as high-end applications gaining traction across multiple sectors.
Warehouse automation was cited as a specific use case. Kadous noted that uplink capacity is critical in such settings because large volumes of video streams collected on the ground must be processed and analysed in real time.
Robot Training Requires Strong On-Site Connectivity
On the growing use of robots and physical AI, Kadous said training would be tailored to each facility. While some machine programming happens before delivery, on-site training demands reliable, high-capacity uplink connectivity, he added.
The telecommunications company said it is working with go-to-market partners Boldyn Networks, Nextivity, Rajant, and Zebra for the XCOM RAN product. It is also collaborating with companies across core networking, compute, SIM, and device segments.
Integration and Flexibility as Key Benefits
Beyond connectivity and reliability, Globalstar highlighted ease of integration and deployment flexibility as central advantages of the XCOM product range. The company said these qualities are designed to reduce friction for enterprises adopting private wireless networks.
The launch comes as demand for private 5G networks in industrial settings grows, driven by the spread of AI-powered automation tools and the need for low-latency, high-throughput wireless infrastructure on factory floors and in logistics facilities.
