Siemens private 5G networks are expanding into eight new markets, including the United States, Canada, and six European countries, as the company moves to meet growing demand for reliable connectivity in industrial settings. The addition of Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Norway, Poland, the US, and the UK brings Siemens’ total private 5G footprint to 15 countries across Europe and the Americas.
US availability is scheduled for the coming months through a dedicated CBRS-band radio unit built for on-premises deployments. The expansion also introduces two new radio units covering the 3.8GHz to 4.2GHz frequency range, alongside the US-specific spectrum band. These units allow manufacturers to operate private 5G networks independently on their own sites, without relying on shared public infrastructure.
Target Sectors and Use Cases
Siemens identified manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and heavy industry as the primary sectors it expects to adopt private 5G. The company said these industries require consistent, low-latency connectivity to support time-sensitive operations and artificial intelligence workloads running at the edge.
Siemens Private 5G Routers Get Edge Runtime Upgrade
Alongside the geographic expansion, Siemens said it upgraded its 5G routers with edge runtime capability. This allows applications to run directly on the device rather than requiring additional hardware, which the company said supports real-time processing for AI workloads. The move reduces latency and infrastructure complexity for industrial operators.
Licensed Spectrum vs. Wi-Fi Congestion
Siemens positioned the expansion as a direct response to rising data traffic driven by artificial intelligence adoption in industrial environments. The company argued that unlicensed Wi-Fi spectrum is prone to congestion in dense factory settings. Its private 5G infrastructure, operating on licensed spectrum, offers more predictable performance for critical operations, Siemens stated.
