Etihad Salam Telecom Company and Huawei signed agreements to advance quantum-safe network infrastructure and next-generation IP networking during LEAP 2026 in Riyadh. The two Memoranda of Understanding establish joint initiatives to evaluate emerging communications architectures across Saudi Arabia.

Next-Generation IP Network Initiatives

The first agreement centers on developing next-generation IP networks through a series of Proof of Concept projects. Salam and Huawei plan to test artificial intelligence in daily network operations, energy-efficient optimization methods, and service level agreement connectivity supported by SRv6 technology. In addition, the trials will assess intelligent automation and autonomous network capabilities to cut power consumption.

“Our partnerships with Huawei represent an important step in our journey to explore the technologies that will define the future of connectivity and security. As we evaluate AI-driven network capabilities and quantum-safe communications, we are positioning ourselves to deliver enhanced experiences for our customers while supporting the Kingdom’s digital ambitions.”

Deployment of Quantum-Safe Network Systems

The second memorandum explores quantum-safe network technologies with a primary focus on Quantum Key Distribution. Both entities will evaluate end-to-end secure communications and operational feasibility for government bodies and private enterprises handling sensitive data. Consequently, the research aims to test whether a quantum-safe network architecture can scale effectively to meet long-term cybersecurity requirements.

“Our joint exploration of next-generation IP networks and Quantum Key Distribution technology demonstrates our shared vision for building intelligent, sustainable, and secure network infrastructure. Together, we look forward to assessing these emerging technologies and uncovering new possibilities that can benefit enterprises, government entities, and citizens across the Kingdom.”
