Sony introduced the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens in Saudi Arabia on May 15, 2026. The new super-telephoto zoom lens is designed for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras and features a constant F4.5 aperture throughout its 100-400mm focal range. The lens delivers autofocus speeds up to 3 times faster than the previous FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS model when mounted on the Alpha 9 III.
Optical Performance and Design
The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS achieves exceptional resolution across its full zoom range using newly developed ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion extreme aspherical), XA (extreme aspherical), two Super ED, and three ED glass elements. These optical components work together to control multiple aberrations including chromatic and spherical aberration from center to edge. The Nano AR Coating II reduces ghosting and flare for high-contrast results in backlit conditions. An 11-blade circular aperture with precision spherical aberration control produces the characteristic G Master bokeh. The constant F4.5 maximum aperture eliminates exposure shifts while zooming, and the lens accepts optional teleconverters for focal lengths up to 800mm or 1,200mm in APS-C mode.
Autofocus and Tracking Capabilities
The lens employs four custom-optimized XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, and advanced autofocus algorithms to deliver autofocus speeds up to 3 times faster with approximately 50 percent improved subject tracking. It remains fully compatible with Alpha 9 III continuous shooting at up to 120 frames per second with AF/AE tracking, making it suitable for wildlife, sports, and photojournalism applications.
Weight and Portability
The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS weighs approximately 65 ounces (1,840 grams) and combines lightweight magnesium alloy barrel components with high-efficiency XD Linear Motors. Its inner-zoom design maintains constant length and stable center of gravity throughout the zoom range, enabling precise framing adjustments without shifting balance. This architecture provides photographers with high mobility for handheld shooting throughout extended sessions.
Professional Control and Environmental Resistance
The lens includes built-in stabilization that supports Active Mode and coordinates internal stabilization control on compatible camera bodies. It supports breathing compensation, which corrects angle-of-view shifts during focus adjustments in video recording. Four focus hold buttons and a dedicated function ring enable intuitive, personalized operation in the field. The dust and moisture resistant design with fluorine front-element coating maintains performance in challenging shooting conditions.
Pricing and Availability
Hassan Obaidan, Chief Operating Officer at Modern Electronics, said the lens addresses creator demand for super-telephoto reach combined with G Master optical quality in a body light enough for handheld shooting. “The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS delivers constant F4.5 aperture, dramatically faster autofocus, and a build that keeps up with the user’s instincts, whether tracking a bird in flight or working the sideline at a championship match,” Obaidan stated.
The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS will be available at Sony stores and on the SonyWorld website for approximately 18,999 Saudi Riyals. Additional product information and content shot with the lens can be found on the AlphaUniverse-MEA website and at participating Sony World store locations across the Kingdom.
